Why do online customers not buy from your Shopping Cart? (Part 1)

By Steve Loates

This is a question that every ecommerce website owner asks themselves at one time or another….sometimes far more often than they would like. J

Over the past few months I have read a number of surveys that have been completed to try and get answers to this critical challenge for all ecommerce website owners. After reading the surveys I thought I would try to summarize the results for you and then try to provide some answers as to how you can minimize this problem of “shopping cart dropouts” and at the same time improve conversions.

Key Ingredients for a successful Ecommerce Shopping Cart.

By Steve Loates

Being involved in Ecommerce for a number of years I have learned that “the only thing constant is change”.  A successful Ecommerce website is always a work in progress. It is always evolving and is subject to change at all times as you continuously try to improve and refine it without blowing up your marketing budget.

However, although things are constantly changing there are, I believe, some key ingredients that are needed in every successful shopping cart.

Taming Time Management

By Elizabeth Skronski

The clock is ticking. The deadline is getting alarmingly closer. You can feel your heart pounding heavily in your chest. You think of all the things to do and all the timelines to meet. The phone rings and you reach across the desk when suddenly your arm touches your coffee cup and the whole cup spills. Now you look at the results in total dismay. You have to start all over again.  Sounds familiar? You’re lucky if it doesn’t. So many of us are caught in the trap of trying to do too many things with whatever time we have, which by the way, seems to be shrinking faster and faster as we grow older. Ask anyone around how they are doing and the most likely response will be …. Oh! I’m just so busy!

Protecting Your Business Assets

By Barbara Fuller

Segregated funds offer all the benefits of mutual fund investing – professional management, liquidity and diversification – and the added peace of mind of the potential for creditor protection. If you are a small business owner, or face personal liability in business, segregated funds may be for you.

Risky Business – Safeguarding Assets

Many small business owners have pledged some part of their personal assets in order to secure a loan for their business. In addition to pledging personal assets, many small business owners have not taken steps to protect uncommitted property. On top of having to face a potential business loss, small business owners must also deal with potentially losing some or all of their personal assets, whether it is their house, car, or funds earmarked for retirement.

How Important Is Website Hosting in Ecommerce?

By Steve Loates
Sunday, May 22, 2011  |  ECommerce, Industry News and Views, Web Design  |   |  Comments

According to Wikipedia; “Website hosting is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their own website accessible to others via the World Wide Web. This is done by companies providing space on a server (large computer) for a fee where all the pages and files that make up a website reside.

As with all websites, but especially in the world of ecommerce, one of the most important factors to be considered is which company will host your website. If the company hosting your website has problems with their servers (the place where your ecommerce site resides) it can result in your website being unavailable to visitors and customers and that potentially costs you money every minute your website is down. If their servers are very slow which causes your website to operate slowly then potential customers may just leave your site out of frustration. Saving money and cutting corners on your website hosting after investing money in good design and marketing may not be the most intelligent use of your funds.

By Elizabeth Skronski

For many “wanna be” small business owners, working from a home office is often a factor in their decision to start their own business. Low overhead, more freedom, even may be staying in their pajamas all day!

But for many of us who have been operating a home-based business for a while, we know that reality does not very often match the fantasy.

Everything from kids quarreling to computer break downs to doing laundry in the middle of the day are all potential distractions and reflects a reality of working from a home office: when you’re working from home, focus and concentration are virtues to cultivate. Not only are you responsible for your own behavior and attitude but the perspectives and behaviors of the people who live in the house with you can wreak havoc in your schedule.

Who’s taking care of your Business while you’re taking care of Yourself?

By Barbara Fuller

Getting sick isn’t something most of us think about. . . until an unplanned illness strikes like cancer or a heart attack. Today, thanks to medical advances and healthier living, we recover and get on with life.

Fortunately we recover, but the business may not, UNLESS. the business owner had a critical illness insurance policy to protect the business, their personal lifestyle and recovery costs. For the business owner, this can be especially difficult because the business that pays everyday living expenses may be at risk if the owner couldn’t work. Critical Illness insurance helps finance solutions, tax-free, that ensure the business can continue without the owner during the recovery.
